Midlife Crisis

When I was in my first year in IEM I opened my second email account(incidentally, this was the first operational one since the one I had opened before this, expired due to low usage...low being a serious understatement). After a few days of using my own name as the display name I thought of switching to a cooler one and after a little deliberation I came up with "Midlife Crisis"...I was in that phase of life when psychedelic rock was the last word on life and at the moment the name seemed pretty cool(in a warped sort of way)and quite apt too.I stuck with it through college...I have to admit i was quite fond of it.
I finally got bored of it and switched over to Comfortably Dumb(well,a part of the blame for that goes to Rediff for failing to live up to the competition from Gmail...yes,my Rediff account,no longer my primary email account still bears that name).
All that said and done,I kind of have a feeling that I could use that name now, more than I could have then.I'm working now...it's been a year odd and I can't help but admit that as I move towards being a quarter of a century closer to death,I'm having more of a Midlife Crisis now than I've ever had before.I can't help but have a premonition that this "Crisis" is only a prelude to things a lot more critical that lie ahead.
A few days ago I remember reading something in Suman's signature like..."Don't ever tell anyone you miss them..."or something to that effect...it's kinda hazy now...would love it if Suman would be kind enough to refresh my memory.I'm afraid I just can't help admitting that I miss having some of my friends around...life's just too darned boring. It's kinda like that Reliance phone ad..."Office from morning till noon, noon to full moon...what honeymoon???"...though I might not exactly be loking for a honeymoon at the moment(wouldn't necessarily object to some honey though, pun intended, wink wink) but something to rid me of this monotony would certainly be most welcome(mind you it would still have to involve at least the amount of moolaah I'm raking in now...you know,as they say,be careful what you wish for,and all that jazz).
But then the "Comfortably Dumb" isn't a misfit either...life in the software industry and in general succeeds in dumbfounding me everyday and since I've developed a certain immunity to it I don't necessarily feel very uncomfortable either.
Quite a dilemma huh???An absolute crisis I say...but then it's only just a teensie weensie part of the Midlife Crisis which has left me Comfortably Dumb.

With malice towards multiplexes

It's been really long since my last post(not that anyone would have noticed, anyone but me that is).Damn work's too hectic and i hardly get time to think coherently about anything beyond PL/SQL codes, leave alone writing. The only thing that gets me through these difficult times is my regular dose of movies and i decided to share some of my thoughts regarding them with
whosoever would be interested enough.
Javed says any movie you watch on a Friday evening is bound to seem like Oscar winning material. For quite some time i had vehemently opposed this view of his...my resistance is getting weaker by the day though.I had grown up on generous helpings of first day last shows at Globe,New Empire and Lighthouse but was always open to criticism of movies that i didn't like(Kurt Russel's Soldier being one of worst experiences ever).Lately however certain unsavoury incidents have led me to lap up whatever movie came this way. Lighthouse has been reincarnated as Citimart which could easily qualify as any decent shopper's nightmare.Globe remains closed for the better part of the year and when it stoops low enough to show Emraan Hashmi movies like "The Killer". New Empire seems the only solace for people like us who could do with a more generous dose of Hollywood. At least it brought me Syriana...albeit for just a week(was enough for me to catch it).I barely managed my tete a tete with Captain Jack Sparrow who can always be trusted to shower some pearls of wisdom. The fact that multiplexes are blossoming in the city are making matters worse since the multiplex audience would readily prefer a Karan Johar to someone like a Bennett Miller(I haven't quite been able to reconcile myself with the fact that i still haven't caught Capote).Even though some of the more popular Hollywood fare has a chance of being screened at the inoxes and 89's the mere though of shelling out a sum of 180 bucks for a movie immediately puts me off(unless it's something i'd practically die for, like Capote maybe).Nothing personal against these multiplexes but i can't help feeling that the way things are going it wouldn't be long before the average middle class man stops going to movie theatres at all.Long live Fancy Market and Chandni and of course Rapidshare, I
say, for had it not been for the aforementioned, movie buffs like me would have starved long ago.
